Friends of
Colby School

Friends of Colby School, or FOCS, is the PTA for Colby Primary School and is a registered charity and a member of PTA-UK. FOCS aims to promote and develop close co-operation and communication between parents and staff and others associated with the school. The PTA engages in activities which support the school and advances the education and well-being of its pupils. Through its fundraising events and initiatives, FOCS provides funds for a wide variety of projects, equipment and experiences that benefit the education and welfare of the children and helps to build the community of the school.

FOCS Committee

The FOCS committee is made up of a Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary, Treasurer and Parent Liaison officer, along with a pool of regular volunteers.

The PTA holds regular, informal meetings either at school or in a local pub, where everyone is welcome to come along and hear about its fundraising ideas and events. Parents and carers are kept informed by email, the school newsletter and its Facebook page. FOCS is a great way to get involved with the school, get to know other parents, grandparents and carers, and make a real contribution to the school life of the children.

FOCS holds a wide variety of events during the school year from its popular Summer and Christmas Fairs, children’s Christmas lunch, Easter-themed events, Fun Runs and sponsored walks, to its 'Do it together' days, Mother’s Day stall, second hand uniform sales, textile recycling events through Bags2school, Film Club, Lego and baking competitions, themed After School Clubs, and Quiz ‘n’ Chips and Bingo Nights for the adults.

FOCS has embarked on a wide variety of projects, from funding new buildings and renovating rooms in the school, to providing play equipment and organising sponsored runs.

Other funding

FOCS also supports a wide variety of smaller activities in school and provides financial and practical help for School Council and Eco Council projects. The committee is also actively involved in applying for grants and awards for the school.

Get involved

None of the PTA events would be possible without the help and support of mums, dads, grandparents and wider family and friends, and we are always looking for more people to help in any way they can. Whether you would like to volunteer to help out at an event, make a cake, help at one of our ‘Do It Together’ days, or whether you have particular contacts or skills that could be utilised by FOCS, we would love to hear from you. You can contact us through the school office, find one of us in the playground, or message us through our Facebook page.

FOCS has worked on many large-scale projects such as new play equipment on the school playing field, new picnic benches, raised beds, the renovation of the music room and staff room and, in anticipation of COVID-related measures coming into place, installed a new toilet block and outdoor classroom in the school garden during the summer of 2020.
